The Learning Project

Women of color may face a concrete ceiling – more formidable than a glass ceiling, where the goal is visible but just out of reach. When facing a concrete ceiling, the view of the other side is obstructed. Danelle Stevens-Watkins, Ph.D., is acting dean of the College of Education. Dr. Stevens-Watkins is a professor in the Department of Educational, School, and Counseling Psychology, as well as the university’s associate vice president for research, diversity and inclusion. She is working to break through concrete ceilings and show women of color what is possible through education.
